Nov. 13, 2015 MALIBU, Calif. - The Blue and Orange World series opened with a 7-1 Blue win yesterday, thanks to a six-run third inning.
Kiko Garcia (Chula Vista, Calif./St. Augustine HS) and Chandler Blanchard (Henderson, Nev./Coronado HS) took the mound on Thursday afternoon for game one of the series and Garcia outdueled Blanchard, going five innings and allowing one hit. Garcia struck out five and walked none. The sophomore righty attacked the strikezone all afternoon, never allowing more than one baserunner in a single inning.
Jeremy Goldentz (Corona, Calif./Corona Santiago HS) led off the third inning with a single and then Brandon Caruso (Pasadena, Calif./Loyola HS) followed with a hard ground ball to third that Orange could only get the lead runner out at second base. Chase Lambert (Malibu, Calif./Malibu HS) followed with a walk and then Aaron Barnett (Mission Viejo, Calif./Capistrano Valley HS) hit an RBI single to break up the 0-0 tie. Brad Anderson (Yorba Linda, Calif./Esperanza HS) drew a walk and was followed by an rbi-single from Nick Costello (Claremont, Calif./Claremont HS) and then Ben Rodriguez (Scottsdale, Ariz./Desert Mountain HS) delivered the big blow with the three-run double down the right-field line. Matt Kanfer (Playa Del Rey, Calif./L.A.C.E.S.) finished the big inning with triple to centerfield that brought home Rodriguez.
Blue added another run in the bottom of the fifth inning on a single by Kanfer, who was 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBI. Barnett, Costello and Rodriguez each collected two hits on the day.
Orange showed some power in the top of the seventh with a two-out home run by Tyler Smith (El Segundo, Calif./St. John Bosco HS), but that was too little too late. Jordan Qsar (El Cajon, Calif./Valhalla HS) added a single and a stolen base for Orange.
Game two of the series is set for Saturday At 2 p.m.
