Pepperdine Completes Day One at SDSU Fall Invitational

Malibu, Calif.: The Pepperdine men's tennis team sent three competitors into battle this Friday. Sophomore Nicholas Baez (Somis, Calif./Laurel Springs School) and freshmen Guilherme Galvao (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Avanço) and Scotland Garapedian (Agoura Hills, Calif./Fusion Academy) all challenged opponents in both singles and doubles.

Garapedian started the day will a tough singles loss to UC Irvine's Anil Patel, 4-6, 5-7. He will continue play in the back draw at 9 a.m. against University of Washington's Kawika Lam.

Galvao and Baez also lost in the first round. Galvao fell 2-6, 3-6 to University of Washington's Piers Foley and Baez closed up his singles attempts with a 1-6, 3-6 loss to Axel Bouillin of UC San Diego.

First-time duo Galvao and Garapedian also contended on the doubles side, falling in the first round, 4-6, to Yannik James and Jesse Ruder-Hook out of University of Denver. The team will take on University of Washington's Joao Barra and Piers Foley tomorrow in the back draw quarterfinals.

Baez paired up with UCI's Patel to compete against USC's Logan Smith and Jake DeVine, falling 2-6 to drop into the back draw. The partners are set to play Grand Canyon University's Mitch Maroscher and Adrian Legarreta in the quarterfinals of the back draw.
