STOCKTON, Calif. - The Pepperdine women's basketball team fell, 77-60, to Pacific on Saturday, despite a hot-shooting performance early on.
The Waves and Tigers played even at 38-38 in a shootout through the first half, with each team shooting better than 50 percent from the field. Pepperdine also hit 4-of-5 3-pointers in the opening period and the Tigers were 6-for-13 from long range. The Waves led by as much as 11 in the first half, but Pacific closed the half on a 15-4 run.
A 12-0 run early in the second half helped the Tigers take a 53-44 lead midway through the period. Pacific would push it to a 17 point lead from there and never let the Waves back in it down the stretch.
Pepperdine shot 37 percent in the second half and were just 1-of-8 from long range in the final 20 minutes. Pacific on the other hand, kept up its hot performance, hitting 3-of-7 threes and finished shooting 46.4 percent from the field. The Tigers also out-rebounded the Waves 24-10 in the second half after Pepperdine had held a 15-14 rebounding advantage through the first period.
The Waves had three players score in double figures, led by Bria Richardson (Hawthorne, Calif./Serra HS) with 15 points. Richardson and Ea Shoushtari (Los Angeles, Calif./L.A.C.E.S.) also led the team with seven rebounds in the game.
Pacific was led by Hailie Eackles and Unique Coleman with 15 points each. Kendall Kenyon posted a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds.
The Waves turned it over just eight times in the game and gave up just 10 points off turnovers, but allowed a total of 20 second chance points on 13 offensive rebounds. Pacific also scored 34 points in the paint.
Pepperdine falls to 6-8 overall, 1-2 WCC with the loss, while Pacific moves to 12-3, 4-0 WCC.
