RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. - The Pepperdine men's and women's tennis teams continued action today at the National Collegiate Tennis Classic, held at the Sunrise Country Club.

As the only two collegiate men's squads in attendance at the tournament, Pepperdine and Washington continued to face off against one another in a round-robin style format.

Luca Marquard (Bensheim, Germany/Goethe Gymnasium Bensheim), who earned his first victory as a Wave yesterday, picked up his second win of the tournament on Saturday. The freshman was well matched against Jeff Hawke, as just a single break of serve separated the competitors in the first two sets.

The third set proved to be just as close, but Marquard grinded out the narrow 6-4 victory to take the match.

Lautaro Pane (Puerto Madryn, Argentina/SEADEA) was also well matched against his opponent, but couldn't find the timely break of serve he needed as he fell 7-5, 7-5 to Joao Barra.

Marquard and Pedro Iamachkine (Lima, Peru/Nebraska HS) paired up in doubles to dispatch Rishabh Raman and Wendell Watanabe, 6-2.

Guillermo (Walnut, Calif./Rowland HS) won two singles matches today to improve to 14-2 on the season. The #17-ranked ace first made short work of #98 Gabriella DeSimone (USC) with a 6-2, 6-3 triumph.

In the semifinals, Guillermo topped Texas A&M's Rutuja Bhosale 6-4, 2-6, 6-3.

Guillermo will face Kyle McPhillips of UCLA in Sunday's final, set to start at 9 a.m.

In doubles, Guillermo and Apichaya Runglerdkriangkrai (Bangkok, Thailand/IMG Academy) dispatched Lauren Marker and Briar Preston in today's quarterfinal matchup.

Laura Gulbe (Riga, Latvia/Murjāņu Sporta Ģimnāzija) and Christine Maddox (Santa Monica, Calif./Santa Monica HS) also defeated a Wildcat pair in consolation doubles action.

The Waves saw continued success in the consolation singles draw, with Gulbe, Michaela Capannolo (Melbourne, Australia/Genazzano FCJ College), Maddox and Runglerdkriangkrai all picking up wins.

Capannolo won twice, topping both Marta Stojanovic and Lindsey Kostas in straight sets.
