PRINCETON, N.J. - Stefan Menichella of the Pepperdine men's tennis team won twice today to reach the final round of his singles draw at the Princeton Invitational. The sophomore now boasts a 3-0 record on the season.
Menichella (Santa Barbara, Calif./University HS) opened his morning against Matt Nardella of Penn. The Wave won 7-4 in the first set tiebreaker before putting the match away 6-3 in set two.
In the semifinals, Menichella was matched with Cornell's Sam Fleck. Once again, Menichella came through in the clutch and narrowly won 6-4, 6-4 to punch his ticket into the Lenz Draw finals.
Tom Hill (Birmingham, England/K12 International Academy) saw his run in the Pagoda Draw come to an end. The sophomore topped Eric Rubin of Columbia 6-4 in the opening frame before falling 6-2, 6-3 in the subsequent sets.
