PRINCETON, N.J. - Sophomores Tom Hill and Stefan Menichella of the Pepperdine men's tennis team opened their season today at the Princeton/Farnsworth Invitational. The pair both won convincingly in singles to get their year started off on the right foot.
Menichella (Santa Barbara, Calif./University HS), who was the Waves' top freshman in 2013-14, opened his sophomore campaign against #108-ranked Ashok Narayana of Columbia. The Wave wasted little time charting his first win of the season and dispatched Narayana, 6-2, 6-2.
Competing in the Pagoda Singles Draw, Hill (Birmingham, England/K12 International Academy) also won in straight sets. The sophomore topped Yale's Zachary Krumholz 6-2, 6-4.
With today's victories, both Menichella and Hill have advanced to the quarterfinals in their respective singles draws.
Although the Waves improved as the match progressed, Menichella and Hill bowed out of the doubles draw with an 8-4 setback versus Justin To and Brandon Yeoh of Brown.
Play at the Princeton/Farnsworth Invitational continues tomorrow and runs through Sunday.
