MIDLAND, Texas - After rain canceled a whole day's worth of competition at the Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational, inclement weather continued to hinder play for the Pepperdine women's tennis team. Senior Lorraine Guillermo won her lone singles match of the day before the Waves had to begin the journey back to Malibu.

Pepperdine was simply tremendous when the weather cooperated. Three Waves, including Guillermo (Walnut, Calif./Rowland HS), Apichaya Runglerdkriangkrai (Bangkok, Thailand/IMG Academy) and Michaela Capannolo (Melbourne, Australia/Genazzano FCJ College), won at least once yesterday in the singles draw. Guillermo and Runglerdkriangkrai emerged as singles quarterfinalists.

Guillermo, the defending 2013 Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational singles champion, was well on her way to repeating in 2014, but only had time to make it to the semifinals. The senior defeated Lindsey Hodge of Rice, 6-7, 6-2, 11-9 before her day was forced to end.

Sophomore Runglerdkriangkrai was faced with #93-ranked and third seeded Natalie Beazant of Rice. The Wave, who held down the No. 6 spot in the dual lineup last spring, challenged the Owl's ace, but narrowly fell 7-6, 6-4.

Guillermo and Runglerdkriangkrai had also reached the doubles quarterfinal, but were unable to get their match in today.

Pepperdine continues the fall season on Sept. 26-28 with the SDSU Fall Classic.
