MALIBU, Calif. - The Pepperdine baseball team had three more players drafted on the final day of the 2014 MLB Draft, giving the Waves five drafted players this year.
Austin Davidson was selected in the 13th round (No. 394 overall) by the Washington Nationals, Bryan Langlois was picked up in the 20th round (No. 604 overall) also by the Nationals and Eric Karch was selected in round 22 (No. 671 overall) by the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Batting in the second spot all season, Davidson owns a .268 batting average, driving in the second most runs on the team with 33 RBI. He has posted four homers, two triples and 14 doubles on the season, which is good for the third most extra-base hits on the squad. Davidson is a two-time All-WCC selection, earning his second all-conference nod this past season as a junior.
Langlois occupied the third spot in the batting order this season, hitting .283 so far this season. He has driven in the second most runs on the team with 34 RBI, hitting three homers, one triple and nine doubles. Langlois earned All-Regional team honors this season after powering the Waves to the Super Regional with a career-best five-RBI day against Cal Poly.
Karch has served as the Waves' closer this season, amassing 15 saves in 28 appearances. The senior righty has 22 strikeouts in 32.0 innings pitched, while holding opponents to a .171 batting average. His 15 saves ties him with Nick Gaudi for the fourth highest single-season total in program history and ties him with Jay Gehrke for the fourth best career saves total at 18.
The five drafted players is the most for the program since nine players were selected in 2007. It is the ninth time in program history that at least five players have been selected in the draft.
