
Waves Fall on the Road to Long Beach State

LONG BEACH, Calif. - The No. 11 Pepperdine men's water polo team fell on the road, 14-3, to No. 5 Long Beach State on Saturday afternoon.
The Waves tried to hold the 49ers close through the first three quarters, but never found their offense as Long Beach State pulled away in the fourth.
After failing to get on the board in the opening period, the Waves scored in the second and third quarters to trail by six, 8-2, heading to the fourth. The 49ers would pull away in the final period, scoring a match-high six goals to seal the win.
Wesley Sherburne (Newport Beach, Calif./Corona del Mar HS) scored all three goals for the Waves in the contest. The three-goal output matches a season-high for the Pepperdine junior.
The 49ers were led by Zacchary Kappos with four goals in the game.
The loss drops the Waves to 8-9 overall on the year and 0-3 in MPSF play. Long Beach State improves to 13-3, 2-0 MPSF.
Pepperdine will be back in action next weekend when it hosts California on Saturday and Stanford on Sunday.
