
Water Polo Drops Home Match to #4 California

The Waves fell to 8-10 overall and 0-4 in the MPSF, while the Golden Bears improved to 18-3, 2-1.
Hewko (Santa Ana, Calif./Servite HS) scored the Waves' first three goals to improve his team-leading total to 43 on the season. Sherburne (Newport Beach, Calif./Corona del Mar HS) scored the Waves' next three, putting him into second on the team with 32.
Nine different Golden Bears scored, led by Luca Cupido's three goals.
Though California took a 7-2 lead midway through the second quarter, the Waves finished the first half on a strong note to pull the deficit back to 8-5. But Pepperdine wouldn't score again until 1:54 remained in the game while Cal scored the first six goals of the second half.
Pepperdine takes on #1 Stanford tomorrow (Sunday, Oct. 26) at 1 p.m. in Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool. The match can be seen live via WaveCasts at PepperdineSports.com.
