SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Senior Hayley Lytle broke the school record in the women's 10,000-meter run on Friday at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival, highlighting a number of strong performances by the Pepperdine track teams.Lytle (Huntington Beach, Calif./Huntington Beach HS) finished ninth in a time of 37:22.08, breaking the school record set by Brieanna Carroll in 2009 by nearly 14 seconds.
Freshman Syrii Daniel (Yucaipa, Calif./Yucaipa HS), senior Juliet Casillas (Los Angeles, Calif./Folsom HS) and senior Kasey Ullery (Simi Valley, Calif./Simi Valley HS/Moorpark College) each won heats in the 100, 100 and 400, respectively. Ullery, who was also the Waves' top finisher in the 200, had a personal-best 59.73 in the 400, which ranks #2 on Pepperdine's all-time top five. Casillas also set a PR.
Freshman Katie Engel (Honoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima HS) took seventh place in the women's two-mile run. Her time of 11:43.33 moves her into third on Pepperdine's all-time top five list.
The women's 4x400 relay team of junior Tamyshia Curry (Fairview, Texas/Lovejoy HS), Daniel, junior Natasha Hamlin (Arcadia, Calif./Mayfield Senior School) and Ullery posted a season-best time of 4:04.90.
The duo of senior Jonathan Rahaeuser (Irvine, Calif./Calvary Chapel HS) and freshman Jordan Scandlyn (Menlo Park, Calif./Menlo-Atherton HS) went 1-2 in the men's mile, though they were the only two competitors in the race.
Pepperdine next competes at the Cal State L.A. Classic on April 5-6.
