FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Pepperdine struggled mightily shooting the ball and Arkansas capitalized on the way to a 64-39 non-conference game Sunday at Bud Walton Arena. The Waves (2-5) drop their third straight game in their first ever meeting against the Razorbacks (7-1).
Playing their second straight game against a BCS opponent and after flying more than 4,300 miles in a week span, the Waves never got things rolling against Arkansas. The Waves trailed by 10, 29-19 at halftime, but the Razorbacks limited Pepperdine to just seven points in the first 10 minutes of the second half and cruised from there.
No Wave reached double-digit scoring and Shay Cooney-Williams (Frisco, Texas/Frisco HS) led the way offensively with eight points and four rebounds. Kelsey Brockway (Rolling Hills, Calif./Palos Verdes HS) added a season-high five points.
Pepperdine shot a chilly .269 (14-52) from the field and remarkably went 7-of-26 in both the first and second halves. Arkansas shot at a .408 (20-49) pace a out-rebounded the Waves 38-28 and dominated down low oustscoring Pepperdine 28-16 in the paint. The Razorbacks took advantage of 23 Pepperdine turnovers, converting those miscues into 20 points.
Pepperdine will take a long break for final exams before opening a four-game homestand against Seattle U. Friday, December 14 at Firestone Fieldhouse. Tip-off against the Redhawks is set for 7:00 p.m.
