SPOKANE, Wash. - The Pepperdine men's basketball team had another rough outing against one of the top teams in the West Coast Conference, as the Waves fell 73-45 at #25 Gonzaga on Thursday evening.Pepperdine (7-7, 1-2) opened WCC play with a home win over San Francisco, but then fell to Saint Mary's before tonight's loss. The Bulldogs (12-2, 2-0) and the Gaels were predicted to finish 1-2 in the conference.
Freshman guard Jordan Baker (Tempe, Ariz./Tempe HS) was the only Pepperdine player to reach double-figures. He scored 10 points and added a team-high-tying and season-high six rebounds. It was his third straight game scoring in double-digits.
Senior center Corbin Moore (Cypress, Calif./Los Alamitos HS) and freshman forward Ramon Eaton (Sacramento, Calif./Sheldon HS) both scored eight points. It was a season high for Eaton.
A season-high 20 turnovers hurt the Waves, as did a season-low 28.3% shooting percentage.
Although the Bulldogs got off to an 8-0 start, the Waves stuck to their game plan and did a fine job defensively for the bulk of the first half.
After a basket by Baker and two free throws by junior guard Caleb Willis (Stockbridge, Ga./Stockbridge HS), Gonzaga's lead was just 15-12 with nine minutes to go until halftime. With a little more than six minutes to play, the Waves had only given up 18 points.
But Gonzaga had a big finish to the half and went into the break with a 38-20 lead. The Waves weren't able to make a dent in the deficit in the second half.
The Bulldogs, who shot 41.0% from the field and made 10 three-pointers, put four players in double-figures, including a game-high 15 from Gary Bell Jr.
Pepperdine next visits Portland on Saturday (Jan. 7) at 5 p.m. Fans can watch the game on FOX Sports West, listen to it via WaveCasts at www.pepperdinesports.com and join our interactive live blog/chat on the official website.
