MALIBU, Calif. - For the second straight week a Pepperdine women's soccer player has been named West Coast Conference Player of the Week, as junior forward Michelle Manning earned the honors on Monday, following senior midfielder Laura Cole's selection last week.
Manning (Calabasas, Calif./Agoura HS) led the squad with two goals on the road at UC Santa Barbara on Friday. Her first goal, which proved to be the game-winner, came in the 16th minute as she put the ball away off a cross into the upper right corner. She then followed in the second half with a penalty kick that put the Waves up, 3-0.
On Sunday at Cal Poly, Manning led the team with nine shots, including three on frame as the Waves tied the Mustangs, 1-1 through double-overtime.
The junior is tied for second on the squad with four goals through nine games played this season and has added one assist.
The honor is the second of Manning's career, as she was named WCC Player of the Week in 2010 after scoring the game-winning goal to beat then-No. 11 UCLA, 1-0.
In 2011, the Waves now boast a record of 7-0-3 and have started off the season on a 10-game unbeaten streak for the fourth time in school history.
Next up for Manning and the Waves is a home game on Friday (Sept. 23) against Lamar at 3 p.m. PT.
