MALIBU, Calif. - The Pepperdine men's and women's track and field squads will compete as a team for the last time this season Saturday at the 25th annual Pomona-Pitzer Track and Field Invitational. The meet will be held at Strehle Track on the campus of Pomona College in Claremont.
Field events begin at 10 a.m. with the first track event scheduled for 10:45 a.m.
The Waves will look to build upon the impressive performances at the Cal Poly Invitational posted by Bridgette Walker (Oak Harbor, Wash./Oak Harbor HS), Lauren Lodge (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton HS) and the women's 4x100 relay team.
Walker had a spectacular day in San Luis Obispo as she won the 400m dash in a time of 57.88 and then joined teammates Amanda Ajdari (Valencia, Calif./Hart HS), Natasha Hamlin (Arcadia, Calif./Mayfield Senior School) and Brittany Clark (Laguna Beach, Calif./Laguna Beach HS) in setting a new school-record in the 4x100-meter relay in a time of 48.89.
Lodge continued to excel in distance running as she set a new school-record in the 1500m with a time of 4:38.32, breaking Chelsea Wishard's (Lawai, Hawai'i/Kauai HS) previous record of 4:39.35. She now owns varsity marks in three events: 1500m, 3K steeplechase and 5K; however, she will not be competing this weekend.
Pepperdine closes out the team competition portion of its schedule as the Waves begin to prepare for final exams and the end of another academic year. For many seniors, this will be the final meet wearing a Waves uniform and head coach Robert Radnoti recognizes the importance of the seniors' contribution to the program.
"This will be the last collegiate competition for our seniors," said Radnoti. "Each of them is very special to us and we are already planning our reunion for next year. I believe each will run the fastest race of their collegiate careers on Saturday and that will be exciting."
The Waves will field a team of 33 participants including eight seniors who will represent the Blue and Orange for the final time in team competition. Seth Allison (Canyon, Texas/Canyon HS) will lead the men's squad as he competes in both the 800m and 1500m runs. Allison ran a 1:57.03 in the 800m last week at Cal Poly as he pursues the school-record of 1:55.33 set by Sean King last spring.
Walker, Ajdari, Clark and Aneka Myles (Victorville, Calif./Silverado HS) will lead a group of senior Waves who would like to end their careers with personal bests. Walker will compete in the 100m, 400m, 4x100m relay and 4x400m relay. Ajdari and Clark will participate in the 100m, 200m, 4x100m relay and 4x400m relay. Myles will be the lone thrower for the Waves as she competes in the shot put and discus.
Seniors Catherine Haas (200m, 400m), Hannah Kramer (1500m) and Mary Stutzman (1500m) will also look to finish their Wave careers on a positive note.
Local teams participating include USC, Loyola Marymount, Cal State Northridge, San Diego and UC San Diego. Meet results will be available at www.pe.pomona.edu/sports/wtrack/meetinfo/PP-Invite
