Hovhannisyan Reaches Singles Quarterfinal in Fall Finale

SARASOTA, Fla. - The Pepperdine men's tennis team wrapped up its fall season this weekend at the Lakewood Ranch Clay Court Classic. Mousheg Hovhannisyan reached the singles quarterfinal to lead the Waves.
Hovhannisyan (North Hollywood, Calif./Continental Academy) concludes the fall campaign with a team-high nine singles victories after picking up a pair of "Ws" at Lakewood Ranch.
The junior opened the tournament versus Raphael Hemmeler of Duke. After dropping the first set 6-4, Hovhannisyan rebounded with a second set win the tiebreaker. He advanced to the next round after taking the final frame 6-1.
Hovhannisyan continued to roll as in the second round, eliminating Minnesota's Mathieu Froment in straight sets.
#12-ranked, and top seeded Marcel Thiemann of Ole Miss awaited Hovhannisyan in the quarterfinals. The well-fought battle was won by Theimann by a score of 6-3, 6-3.
Daniel Moss (Malibu, Calif./Malibu HS) and Jenson Turner (Woodland Hills, Calif./Campbell Hall HS) also competed in the singles draw but both suffered losses in their opening rounds.
In doubles, Hovhannisyan and Turner were edged by Andrew Butz and Michael Alford of Florida, 9-7.
The Waves are now done with the fall tournament portion of the season. They resume once more in January, when they open the 2012 dual campaign at Fresno State on January 22.
