Robinson Reaches Career Milestone in Pepperdine's Runner-Up Finish

MALIBU, Calif. - After each going 2-0 on Friday night and Saturday afternoon, the Pepperdine and Missouri women's volleyball teams met tonight for what was bound to be an epic battle. The squads did not disappoint, and although the Waves hit a solid .312 attack percentage, the Tigers escaped the Firestone Fieldhouse with a 3-1 victory and left their season record untarnished.
Pepperdine (3-3, 0-0 WCC) gave Missouri (6-0, 0-0 Big 12) its first set loss of the season, and was by far the toughest competition the Tigers have faced thus far. The Waves dropped a heartbreaking two sets beyond the 25-point total mark and bowed out 26-24, 21-25, 25-21, 27-25.
The defense was led by Stevi Robinson's (Hermosa Beach, Calif./Mira Costa HS) season-high 27 digs. With that she eclipsed 1,000 digs, ending the evening with 1,001 and currently ranks eighth in the Pepperdine record books. Another 78 digs and the junior libero will move into the seven spot.
Lilla Frederick (Huntington Beach, Calif./Cornelia Connelly HS) had a dominant game for the Waves, hitting a season-best 15 kills while protecting the backcourt with eight digs. Kim Hill (Portland, Ore./Portland Christian HS) tacked on another 15 kills along with six total blocks at the net.
Emily Cook (Murrieta, Calif./Murrieta Valley HS) and Victoria Adelhelm (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Santa Fe Christian HS) also met the double-digit plateau with 12 kills apiece. Up at the net, Adelhelm matched Hill with six blocks.
Freshman setter Kellie Woolever (Long Beach, Claif./Woodrow Wilson HS) bettered her career-best assist total by nearly 20, finishing the night a match-high 57 assists. Brittney Clark (San Jose, Calif./Presentation HS) also had a solid match, tallying five blocks and seven kills.
Missouri was paced by Paola Ampudia, who hit a match-best 19 put aways. Her dominance was rewarded with tournament MVP recognition. Teammate Molly Kreklow was also named to the all-tournament team.
For the Waves, Adelhelm and Frederick were given all-tournament status. Frederick ranked second on the team with weekend totals of 32 kills and 29 digs. Adelhelm recorded a two-day total of 30 kills, and a blistering .520 (30-4-50) attack percentage, while collecting a team-best 12 blocks.
Pepperdine returns to action this Wed., Sept. 8 to face regional rival UCLA. First serve on the campus in Los Angeles, Calif. is set for 7 p.m. The Bruins currently boast an AVCA ranking of No. 14.
