Pepperdine-Michigan Box Score
SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Pepperdine women's soccer team's record dropped to 1-1 this season after a 1-0 loss to Michigan on Friday at the USD Tournament.
Following last week's season-opening 2-0 victory over Fresno State, the Waves were hoping to improve to 2-0 for the first time since 2005. But the Wolverines (2-0-1) got a 70th minute goal from Amanda Bowery to provide all the scoring they would need.
The Wolverines had a slim edge in shots (9-8) and put seven on goal to the Waves' three. Pepperdine sophomore goalkeeper Roxanne Barker (Irvine, Calif./Woodbridge HS) tied her career high by stopping six shots.
Junior forward Michelle Spacciapolli (San Diego, Calif./Cathedral Catholic/Boston College) and sophomore forward Anisa Guajardo (Clovis, Calif./Buchanan HS) each attempted a team-high two shots.
In the final minutes, Guajardo put a shot wide and Barker came all the way up the field from her spot at goalkeeper to attempt a shot, but it was saved by the Wolverines' keeper.
The Waves' second match of the USD Tournament is against Arizona on Sunday (Aug. 29) at 2 p.m.
