Alums in Action at Wimbledon

MALIBU, Calif. -- One Former Pepperdine All-American -- Robert Kendrick -- qualified for the main draw at Wimbledon while another -- Andre Begemann -- fell one match short this week.
Kendrick won three straight qualifying matches, beating Filip Krajinovic of Serbia (6-4, 6-2), Josselin Ouanna of France (6-3, 6-4) and fellow American Ryan Sweeting (6-4, 6-7, 3-6, 7-6, 8-6).
In the ATP World Rankings, Kendrick is currently #162 in singles. He played for the Waves just one year, in 2000.
Begemann reached the third round of qualifying before falling. He defeated fellow German Mischa Zverev, 6-3, 7-6, and then beat Ivo Minar of the Czech Republic, 6-7, 6-3, 6-4. But he then lost to Rik De Voest of South Africa, 6-3, 7-6, 6-1.
In the ATP World Rankings, Begemann is currently #179 in singles. He competed for the Waves for three seasons and was an All-American each year (2006-08). Begemann was the West Coast Conference Player of the Year in 2007 and 2008 and played a key role in Pepperdine's 2006 NCAA championship.
