Men's Tennis Opens WCCs With Win Over Gonzaga

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The #22 Pepperdine men's tennis team began the defense of its West Coast Conference crown with an easy 4-0 win over Gonzaga on Friday.

The top-seeded Waves (14-10) now advance to Saturday's semifinals, where they will face either San Francisco or Loyola Marymount at 11:30 a.m. at USD's Barnes Tennis Center.

Sophomore Alex Llompart (Carolina, Puerto Rico) was the only double-winner for the Waves, as several matches were abandoned once the match was decided. Llompart and senior Bassam Beidas (Cairo, Egypt), the nation's #24-ranked doubles team, won their match 8-0 at the #1 position. Llompart then posted a 6-2, 6-1 victory at #3 singles that was the match-clincher.

Pepperdine is going for its record 41st WCC championship and its 20th consecutive title. The Waves have now won eight of their last nine matches.
