WALNUT, Calif. - Pepperdine track freshman Sean King (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill HS) and junior Chelsea Wishard (Lawai, Hawai'/Kauai HS) just missed setting new school and personal records in the 1500-meter run Friday at the 52nd Annual Mt. SAC Relays.
King and Wishard were Pepperdine's lone competitors at the historic meet based at Mt. San Antonio College. The week-long meet includes divisions for high school, college and elite athletes.
King completed his 1500m run in 3:59.64, which was .36 seconds shy from tying Chris Ogle's 2008 school record of 3:59.28. King posted the team's four-fastest times in this event over the course of 2010 and just last week set a new school record in the 800m at UCLA's Drake Stadium with a mark of 1:55.33.
As for Wishard, her time today of 4:39.38 was .03 seconds away from matching her personal and varsity record of 4:39.35, which she posted in late March at the Cal/Nevada Championships. Wishard will enter her final year as a Wave next season holding the school's records in the 800m (2:19.70) and 3000m (10:04.01) in addition to the 1500m.
