MALIBU, Calif. - Senior
Bassam Beidas was part of wins over highly ranked opponents in both singles and doubles, but the #24 Pepperdine men's tennis team suffered a 5-2 loss to #16 Baylor on Saturday afternoon.
Beidas (Cairo, Egypt) teamed up with sophomore Alex Llompart (Carolina, Puerto Rico) to beat the 17th-ranked team of Maros Horny and Jordan Rux, 8-1, at the #1 doubles position. Beidas then beat 22nd-ranked Denes Lukacs by the score of 6-4, 6-3, at the #1 singles slot.
But the Waves (6-6) lost the doubles point, and though straight-set wins in singles by Beidas and freshman Mousheg Hovhannisyan (North Hollywood, Calif.) at #4 tied the match at 2-2, the Bears (12-2) won the final three matches in three sets.
Pepperdine plays again at home this Wednesday (March 17) against #52 Minnesota at 1 p.m.
