Krall, Dekar Post Personal Bests at PCSC Championships

LONG BEACH, Calif. - Pepperdine women's swimming sophomore Madison Krall and freshman Rachel Dekar both recorded lifetime bests in their respective events during Friday's third night of PCSC Championship competitions at the Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool.

Krall (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo Centennial HS) finished the 400-yard individual medley with a sixth-place time of 4:33.60, which is the second fastest mark in school history. Alison McLeod holds the varsity record of 4:28.17. Also scoring for Pepperdine in the 400 IM was freshman Shannon Adkins (Granite Bay, Calif./Granite Bay HS), who placed 15th with a personal record of 4:44.87.

Dekar (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Cranbrook Kingswood Upper School) was the Waves' highest finisher tonight with her fourth-place 100 breaststroke time of 1:05.05, which ranks third all-time in the Pepperdine record books behind junior Kayleen Hicks' (Chico, Calif./Chico HS) varsity record of 1:04.47 and senior Dani Kimmel's (Chula Vista, Calif./Eastlake HS) time of 1:04.57.

Hicks touched the wall in seventh place Friday with a time of 1:06.09 while Kimmel placed 12th in 1:07.29.

Pepperdine's three breaststroke swimmers combined to score 63.5 points, which helped keep the Waves in third place for the second straight night with 656.5 points. UC San Diego leads Loyola Marymount 961-922 heading into Saturday's final day of competition.

Dekar and Hicks also were part of the Pepperdine 400 medley relay team that placed fifth with a season best time of 3:57.60. They were joined in this effort by Adkins and junior Francesca Cyphers (Lake Oswego, Ore./St. Mary's Academy), who earlier in the night placed sixth in the 100 fly at 57.93.

Elsewhere in the pool, seniors Brianna Blanchard (Agoura, Calif./La Reina HS) and Ali Chester (Riverside, Calif./Riverside Poly HS) finished 15th in the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke, respectively, with times of 1:58.45 and 1:01.43. Blanchard recorded a season best time of 1:57.91 during prelims.

The PCSC Championships conclude Saturday with the 1650 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly and 400 freestyle relay all on the schedule of events.
