Moment #6: Pond Wins 3-Meter Diving Event

Beginning on Monday (June 8) and continuing over a two-week period, PepperdineSports.com will count down the top 10 athletic moments of the 2008-09 school year. One highlight will be posted each weekday until the #1 moment is unveiled on Friday, June 19. The top moments were chosen as the result of balloting by members of Pepperdine's staff.

Feb. 18, 2009: On the first night of the Pacific Collegiate Swimming & Diving Conference Championships in Long Beach, Amanda Pond won the women's 3-meter diving event, becoming Pepperdine's first conference diving champion since 1992.

Pond won the event with a score of 427.15, running away with the title after finishing nearly 60 points ahead of teammate Tiffany Martz. In fact, Pepperdine divers finished in the top four positions.

Pond would finish in second place in the 1-meter competition the following night, and would be named the PCSC's Diver of the Year following the conclusion of the event. She was Pepperdine's first recipient of that award since 2002. Pepperdine took third place as a team at the conference championships.
