LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Sophomore Bridgette Walker set a Pepperdine record on her own and with the 4x100-meter relay team Saturday at USC’s Trojan Invitational, bringing the total number of varsity records broken this season to ten.
Walker (Oak Harbor, Wash./Oak Harbor HS) ran the first leg of the 4x100 relay that finished in 49.33 seconds, breaking the year-old record set by herself, Brittany Clark (Laguna Beach, Calif./Laguna Beach HS), Grace Lanier and Amanda Ajdari (Valencia, Calif./Hart HS) at the 2008 Pomona Pitzer meet.
Ajdari and Clark were also part of today’s relay as the anchor and second legs, and were joined by Rebecca Clark (Pleasanton, Calif./Foothill HS) on the third leg.
Walker returned to track several events later and took down Taylor Gamble’s two-year old record of 1:00.69 in the 400-meter dash by posting a mark of 59.37.
“Coach (Melvin) Jones and his sprinters are really coming on strong,” Pepperdine head track and field coach Robert Radnoti said. “They are continuing to drop their times week after week and I’m excited to see what they’ll be able to accomplish in the second half of the season.”
The Waves compete again next weekend for the two-day California-Nevada Invitational hosted by UCLA. The meet takes place from March 28 to 29.
