Tenwolde Again Takes First at Cal Poly Shootout

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - Freshman diver Jenna Tenwolde (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Dana Hills HS) placed first off the 3-meter springboard for the second straight day Saturday at the Cal Poly Shootout as Pepperdine's swimmers and divers again won two of three duals.

The Waves improved to 4-2 on the season following two more wins against Cal Lutheran (102-10) and Cal State Northridge (63-48), but did not have enough healthy bodies to defeat the host Mustangs, losing 81-32.

Pepperdine's divers proved to be their own toughest competition this weekend as the Waves Saturday claimed the first through third and fifth positions off both the 1- and 3-meter springboards. Tenwolde scored a season best 245.05 points on 3-meter in claiming her second victory on the season, while sophomore Leslie Wade (Atlanta, Ga./Lovette School) won the 1-meter crown with 237.35 points.

Former PCSC diving champion and junior Tiffany Martz (Folsom, Calif./Folsom HS) was Friday's 1-meter competition with 241.10 points, but was third today with 222.20 points.

Overall this season, Pepperdine divers have won seven straight competitions against the opposition to start the year with Martz winning four of the seven.

Pepperdine's swimmers accumulated 14 top-five showings in the pool led by sophomore Madison Krall's (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo Centennial HS) second-place finish in the 500 freestyle with her time of 5:15.04. Senior Brianna Blanchard (Agoura Hills, Calif./La Reina HS) finished two spots behind Krall with a time of 5:22.58, and was one spot behind her teammates in the 1000 free at 10:59.07.

Krall finished third in the 1000 free (10:45.19) and fourth in the 200 butterfly (2:12.06).

Junior Kayleen Hicks (Chico, Calif./Chico HS) and freshman Sarah Burris (Virginia Beach, Va./Cox HS) both showed slight improvements in their 50 free times from Friday. Hicks finished fourth in 25.47 today, down from 25.53, while Burris finished fifth in 25.58, down from 25.95.

Burris also lowered her mark in the 100 free, placing third in 55.69. She clocked a 56.15 during Friday's races.

Hicks was more than two seconds faster in the 200 breaststroke, recording a fourth-place effort of 2:26.26, down from 2:28.53.

Freshman Shannon Adkins claimed three top-five showings, taking third with both the 400 medley relay and in the 200 free (2:01.00), and fifth in the 200 backstroke (2:17.18).

Pepperdine is off next week from competition but will return the weekend of Nov. 19 for the three-day Nike Cup in Long Beach, Calif.
