MALIBU, Calif. - Seniors Sophia Medina and Kelly Reilly, junior Cammie Burke, sophomore Michelle Spacciapolli, and freshmen Roxanne Barker and Kelsea Smith were announced Wednesday as Pepperdine's selections to the 2009 All-West Coast Conference teams.
Medina (Downey, Calif./Los Alamitos HS), a three-time conference honoree, was the Waves' sole representative on the All-WCC First Team, and Burke (Del Mar, Calif./Torrey Pines HS) was tabbed to her second All-WCC Honorable Mention squad in three years.
Barker (Irvine, Calif./Woodbridge HS) and Smith (Camarillo, Calif.) both were placed on two teams. Barker received the goalkeeping spot on the conference's second and all-freshman teams, and Smith, who redshirted in 2008, also made the all-freshman crew as well as the honorable mention troop.
Spacciapolli (San Diego, Calif./Cathedral Catholic HS) was tabbed to the All-WCC second team after scoring nine points in her first year donning a Waves' uniform. She transferred to Pepperdine last spring after spending her freshman season at Boston College.
Reilly (Cardiff, Calif./La Costa Canyon HS) made an all-conference team for the first time in her four-year career after totaling six points on two goals and two assists from the defensive midfield position. Her goals against Tennessee and Houston both served as game-winners.
Earlier this season, Reilly was named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII Second Team.
Pepperdine's eight award winners are one short of the program record of nine, which was initially set in 2007 and later matched following the 2008 season.
Medina led Pepperdine this season with 11 points on five goals and one assist, and four of her goals were game-winners. Her nine career game-winning goals tie her for fourth most in team history with Ali Pavoni.
Medina leaves the Waves' as its No. 14 all-time scorer with 37 points (14 goals, nine assists) and did it all on just 87 shots.
Barker finished the year ranked second in the WCC with eight shutouts, tying her with Anna Picarelli for the third-highest season total in team history. Her first-year season totals also included a 1.06 goals-against average, 64 saves and a .762 save percentage.
Barker's GAA was the third lowest in the conference at the end of the regular season.
Barker had the luxury of playing behind a veteran defensive line that regularly consisted of Burke and Smith in addition to Haleigh Guertin (Corona, Calif./Santiago HS), sophomore Myriah Stockman (Sandy, Utah/Brighton HS). This unit allowed 1.11 goals per match and 9.4 shots taken.
Smith led all Pepperdine players with 1695 minutes played, starting 18 of the Waves' 19 matches. She did not start the Opening Day match against Marquette, but was in for the final 53 minutes of play when the Waves' scored their game-tying and winning goals. She did not miss another minute for the remainder of the season.
Burke chipped in 1668 minutes and was one of only three Waves to start every match along with Barker and Stockman.
Pepperdine finished 2009 at 11-7-1 and were 3-3-1 against the West Coast Conference. The Waves also recorded their 16th straight winning season at Tari Frahm Rokus Field, posting a mark of 8-2-1.
