MALIBU, Calif. - Pepperdine senior Kelly Reilly (Cardiff, Calif./La Costa Canyon HS) Friday was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District VIII second team. The award is sponsored by ESPN The Magazine through its partnership with the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Reilly, a mathematics major, has scored a career season high six points this season on two goals and two assists from the defensive midfield position. Her goals against Tennessee and Houston both served as game-winners.
Reilly's defensive abilities have helped the Waves pitch eight shutouts this season, which is their highest total since 2005 (9). Opposing teams also have averaged far less than 10 shots per match.
Reilly's academic accomplishments include four years on the Dean's List and three on the WCC Commissioner's 'Gold' Honor Roll. Reilly is a member of the Golden Key Honor's Society, Pi Mu Epsilon (National Math Honor's Society) and Phi Eta Sigma (National Honor's Society).
To be nominated for Academic All-District, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. No student-athlete is eligible until he/she has completed one full calendar year at his/her current institution and has reached sophomore athletic eligibility.
Those student-athletes named to an all-district first team have their names forwarded onto the ballot for Academic All-America.
CoSIDA District VII includes all student-athletes competing at the university or collegiate level in the Canadian province of British Columbia and the states of Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawai'i, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington.
The Waves (9-7-1, 1-3-1 WCC) return to action Sunday for a 1 p.m. home match against conference rival Saint Mary's (9-9, 1-4 WCC). Reilly and her classmates Alexis Farler (Roseville, Calif./Granite Bay HS), Sophia Medina (Downey, Calif./Los Alamitos HS) and Courtney Price (Corona, Calif./Corona HS) will be recognized prior to the match during Senior Day festivities.
