Begemann Gets Ready for Pro Tennis Career

MALIBU, Calif. Â Pepperdine University tennis standout Andre Begemann has signed a contract to be represented by Capstone Sports Group, LTD, in the first step toward embarking on his professional tennis career.

“We are very excited to have the opportunity to represent Andre Begemann during his professional tennis career,” said Jeremy Sanders, President of Capstone Sports Group, LTD. “It is a pleasure to represent an athlete with such high character and athletic ability to match. He will begin playing tournaments in his home country of Germany and then competing on a larger scale internationally. The sky is the limit for Andre and we believe he will be one of the real ambassadors of the game of tennis on the International scene in the years to come.”

Begemann ended his Pepperdine tennis career at the semi-finals of the NCAA Division I Singles Tournament on May 20th, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He finished the season ranked No. 5 in the nation for collegiate athletes.

I look forward to having Jeremy Sanders represent me as my agent,” said Begemann. “Jeremy has great credibility and I felt very comfortable with him right from the start. After considering other offers, I am convinced that he is the person I want to work with in the future to accomplish my long-time goal of becoming a memorable professional tennis player.”

The Blomberg, Germany native won the 2007 and 2008 NCAA Division I Regional Singles title, as well as being named a three-time All-American. In 2006, Begemann clinched the NCAA Division I National Team Championship for Pepperdine. The West Coast Conference named Begemann Player of the Year in 2007 and 2008 and Pepperdine University tabbed him the 2008 Athlete of the Year.

The 2008 Pepperdine graduate attracted nationwide attention in May for his courage and dedication to his team after learning his mother had lost her battle to cancer on Mother’s Day. A subdued Begemann went out on the court just hours later and upset Alex Clayton (Stanford) 6-0, 6-3, to help his team advance to the Sweet Sixteen in Tulsa. Although he missed the team competition to attend his mother’s funeral in Germany, he returned for the singles and doubles competition later in the week.

“Hearing the recent story about his courage during his mother’s passing comes as no surprise,” said University of Illinois Head Men’s Tennis Coach Brad Dancer. “Our student-athletes witnessed his incredible intensity and competitiveness coupled with tremendous sportsmanship during every match. Andre defines the essence of what we strive for in college tennis and athletics in general.”

Begemann is currently in Germany and plans to travel to Europe, Egypt and Africa this summer to compete in professional tournaments.

“I plan on coming back to the United States in August or early September to train and play in some tournaments in Southern California,” said Begemann.
