“It was a great day for the Waves,” said coach Adam Steinberg. “I think Bassam played a little nervous, yet I was really happy with how he competed. With all the traveling that Andre has done in the past week, I was really proud of how he got through that last set.”

“I felt a little rusty after not playing for a while,” said Begemann. “It was a little difficult to keep my energy up and I felt like my focus was all over the place. I’m ready for the next round.”
Begemann struggled in the second set and in the tie breaker, then fought back to win the third set after being up 4-1 and then in a 4-4 tie.
Beidas (Cairo, Egypt) also dealt with nerves and trouble focusing, but eventually went on to defeat Guillermo Gomez (Georgia Tech), 6-3, 7-6 (3).
“The first match was tough for me to focus,” said Beidas. “I felt like I slowed down a bit when he started playing well. I definitely didn’t feel like I had the focus that I should have.”
