SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Pepperdine men’s tennis player Bassam Beidas was named the WCC Men’s Tennis Player of the Month for April. Teammates Andre Begemann and Omar Altmann were selected as the Doubles Team of the Month for the third consecutive month.
Beidas (Cairo, Egypt), holds a 16-match winning streak and is 26-5 for the season, playing at the No. 2 position for the Waves. The sophomore was 4-0 for the month of April with two unfinished matches at the WCC Championships. Beidas is currently ranked No. 37 by the ITA and was selected to compete as an individual at the NCAA Division I Men’s Singles Tournament, to be held May 21-26, in Tulsa Oklahoma.
Begemann (Blomberg, Germany) and Altmann (Cairo, Egypt) are ranked 24th by the ITA and hold a 22-5 record. Begemann was selected as the 2008 WCC Player of the Year while Altmann made All-WCC first team. The duo won every match they played in the month of April (6-0). Begemann and Altmann qualified to represent Pepperdine in the doubles competition at the NCAA Division I Men’s Doubles Tournament, to be held May 21-26, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The Waves will host the first two rounds of the NCAA Division I Regional Tennis Tournament on May 10-11. Pepperdine plays Hawaii at 11 a.m., Saturday and Stanford plays University of Nevada, Las Vegas at 2 p.m. The winners from Saturday’s matches will advance to the finals on Sunday at 1 p.m. Sunday’s winner earns a trip to the team competition at the NCAA Division I Tournament, in Tulsa, Oklahoma on May 16-20.
