Waves Post 5-2 Victory Over Fresno State

The Waves (13-6) swept the doubles matches over the Bulldogs (7-11), to earn the doubles point. Both No. 1 and No. 2 doubles played tough matches that came down to tie breakers. Andre Begemann (Blomberg, Germany) and Omar Altman (Cairo, Egypt) came back after being down 5-7 at match point, to defeat Rudolf Siwy and Mirko Zapletal (Fresno), 9-8 (5), in No. 1 doubles.
No. 2 doubles Bassam Beidas (Cairo, Egypt) and Rickus de Villiers (South Africa) defeated Denny Fafek and Taylor Leiby (Fresno), 9-8 (3). No. 3 doubles Brian Brogan (
“We knew this team was talented and we had to get on them right away,” said Brogan. “Rankings don’t always apply and you have to prepare for every match like your playing the No. 1 team in the country.”
The Bulldogs challenged the Waves in singles with three matches going to three sets and an upset victory in No. 1 singles by Siwy over Begemann, 6-2, 3-6, 2-6. In No. 3 singles Veerepalli defeated Altmann, 2-6, 6-2, 3-6. De Villiers claimed a win in No. 5 singles over Martin Nilsson, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.
