MALIBU, Calif. – WCC Men’s Tennis Player of the Year, Andre Begemann qualified for a spot at the NCAA Division I Men’s Singles Tournament, to be held May 21-26, in Tulsa Oklahoma. Joining Begemann in the singles competition will be teammate Bassam Beidas.
Begemann (Blomberg, Germany) is 24-8 for the 2008 season in the No. 1 singles position for Pepperdine. Beidas (Cairo, Egypt) is on a 16 match winning streak and is 26-5 for the season, playing No. 2 singles.
No. 24 Begemann and Omar Altmann (Cairo, Egypt) will represent Pepperdine in the doubles competition at the national tournament. The duo holds a 22-5 record.
The individual and doubles competition will take place at the conclusion of the team championships, at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center at the University of Tulsa.
The Waves men’s tennis team automatically qualified for the first round of the NCAA Division I Tennis Tournament by winning the WCC title on April 20. Pepperdine will host the first two rounds on May 10-11. Hawaii, Stanford and UNLV will be participating at the regional event. Pepperdine plays Hawaii at 11 a.m. on Saturday and Stanford faces UNLV at 2 p.m. The winners will play in the finals on Sunday at 1 p.m. with the winner advancing on to the team competition in Tulsa.
