MALIBU, Calif. – With rain in the forecast Wednesday afternoon, the No.13 Pepperdine men’s tennis team (12-6) only played the singles matches and swept Loyola Marymount, 6-0, at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center.
No. 21 Bassam Beidas (Cairo, Egypt) continued his singles winning streak in No. 2 singles (12-0), with a victory over Ivan Lopez (LMU), 6-2, 6-3. No. 6 ranked Andre Begemann (Blomberg, Germany) added another win to his streak (7-0) by defeating Jacek Twarowski (LMU), 6-3, 6-1, in No. 1 singles
Mahmoud Kamel (Paris, France) finished first in No. 3 singles with a sweep over Sam Tadevosian (LMU), 6-0, 6-0. Rickus de Villiers (Durban, South Africa) posted an impressive victory in the No. 4 spot by defeating Johan Berhof (LMU), 6-1, 6-1.
“I was trying some things I’ve been doing in practice. I think I served better than I have been,” said de Villiers. “I’m just looking forward to getting better every match.”
A change in the lineup gave Alex Moreno (Queretaro, Mexico) the opportunity to play in the No. 5 singles position and defeat Aris Andreasian (LMU) 6-3, 6-1. Brian Brogan (Los Gatos, Calif. / Los Gatos HS) moved into the No. 6 spot to win his match over Dimitry Popov (LMU), 6-1, 6-0.
Next up, the Waves host Fresno State, Sunday, April 6, at 1 p.m., at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center.
