WALNUT, Calif. -- Pepperdine's Chris Ogle represented the Pepperdine track team at the prestigious Mt. Sac Relays on Thursday night and established a new school record in the 5,000 meters.
Ogle (Tucson, Ariz./Mountain View HS/Arizona), a senior in eligibility but a graduate student in the School of Psychology, ran a 14:58.42. Running against some of the nation's top talent, he placed 23rd in his race, but his time beat Pepperdine's old record by about 15 seconds.
"The School of Psychology finished their year on Wednesday, so Chris was stress-free and ready to go," Pepperdine Coach Robert Radnoti said. "The field was at a very high level as Mt. Sac has become one of a handful of national-class track and field meets in the nation. Chris hung with the lead pack for quite a while but needed to run a much faster pace than we had planned. Still, Chris set a new PR and broke our school record."
The Waves will next be in action at the Steve Scott Invitational, hosted by UC Irvine on Saturday, May 3. It will be the final meet of the season unless qualifying times are met for the NCAAs.
