Thames Named WCC Player of the Week

MALIBU, Calif. – After blasting four home runs and leading #24 Pepperdine to a 5-1 week, junior outfielder Eric Thames was named the WCC Player of the Week on Monday as announced by the league office.

Thames (San Jose, Calif./West Valley JC/Bellarmine Prep) finished last week with a .450 batting average, which included four home runs, two triples, 13 RBI and seven runs scored. Thames entered last week with no home runs in his Waves career, but blasted one against USC on Tuesday, and hit three more against Columbia over the weekend. This is the first career WCC Player of the Week honor for Thames, but his second 2008 accolade, as he was also named to the Dairy Queen Classic’s All Tournament team.

Thames and the Waves return to action tomorrow, as they will face #10 UCLA in Los Angeles at 6 p.m.
