MALIBU, Calif. – Pepperdine’s relay teams had a strong showing as the Waves hosted their second annual West Coast Track Challenge at Stotsenberg Track on Saturday.
The women won both the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay races and set school records, while the men (competing in their first meet since the program was reinstated) captured the distance medley.
Pepperdine was competing against WCC rivals Loyola Marymount, San Diego, San Francisco and Santa Clara. In dual-meet scoring, the women defeated San Diego (69-10) and Santa Clara (63-22) but fell to Loyola Marymount (48-35) and San Francisco (46-36). At a disadvantage while only fielding runners in distance events, Pepperdine men's were outscored by LMU (58-19), USF (34-16) and Santa Clara (33-20).
The women’s 4x100 meter relay team of Amanda Ajdari (Valencia, Calif./Hart HS), Bridgette Walker (Oak Harbor, Wash./Oak Harbor HS), Brittany Clark (Laguna Beach, Calif./Laguna Beach HS) and Grace Lanier (Houston, Texas/Cypress HS) ran a time of 50.05, lowering the school record for the second time this season.
The women’s 4x400 meter relay team of Lauren Carfioli (Coto de Caza, Calif./Santa Margarita HS), Kristen Rowsey (Los Altos, Calif./Los Altos HS), Walker and Erica Deverian (San Juan Capistrano, Calif./Santa Margarita HS) bettered the school record by three seconds with a time of 4:14.16.
Clark also took first place in the 100 meters with a time of 13.13. Ajdari was first in the 400 meter hurdles (1:08.62). Rowsey was third in the 400 meters (1:01.68). Courtney Young (Encinitas, Calif./La Costa Canyon HS) broke her own school record in the 3,000 meters with a seventh-place finish and a time of 10:26.34.
On the men’s side, the Waves’ distance medley group of Conrad Wozniak (Irvine, Calif./Woodbridge HS), David Williams (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Woodbridge HS), Eric Magana (Whittier, Calif./La Serna HS) and Chris Ogle (Tucson, Ariz./Mountain View HS/Arizona) had a time of 10:50.28 and finished 22 seconds ahead of Loyola Marymount.
Other strong results on the men’s side included Williams (1:57.18) and Magana (1:59.14) finishing second and third, respectively, in the 800 meters. Seth Allison (Canyon, Texas/Canyon HS) took fourth place in the 1,500 meters (4:09.92) and Ogle was fourth in the 3,000 meters (8:45.97).
The Waves next compete in the South Florida Open on Friday, March 7.
