LA JOLLA, Calif. – The Pepperdine men’s tennis team will take part in the 119th Annual Pacific Coast Doubles Championships on Feb.29-March 2, at the La Jolla Beach and Tennis club in La Jolla, Calif.
The tournament is the second longest continuously running tennis tournament in the world. Established in 1890, the event was a way to test the best college teams from the East and West Coasts. Past champions include Don Budge, Jack Kramer, Bobby Riggs and Tony Trabert. More recent players like Stan Smith, Robert Lutz, John McEnroe, Rick Leach, Kelly Jones, Jim Grabb and Jeff Austin have also won the event.
Expected to participate in the championships are UCLA, USC, Stanford, Cal, ASU, Rice, and University of San Diego, among othersat the La Jolla Beach and Tennis club in La Jolla, Calif.
