LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Pepperdine swimming and diving team wrapped up competition at the PCSC Championships with a second place team finish, which was the highest finish in team history.
The Waves finished just 46 points behind Loyola Marymount and ahead of defending champion UC San Diego. Ali McLeod (Austin, Texas/Cedar Park HS) was named Division I Swimmer of the Meet and PCSC Swimmer of the Year after finishing the meet as the only swimmer to qualify for the NCAA Championships. McLeod claimed first place in the 100-yard butterfly on Friday with a time of 54.70, which was also good for a new school record.
The Waves reached the school record books in three events, as Loriann Mark (Malibu, Calif./Malibu HS) swam the third fastest time in school history in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 17:42.84, which placed her fourth and was a personal best. Ali Chester (Riverside, Calif. (Boston Univ./Riverside Poly HS) placed third in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:07.67, which was the fifth fastest time in school history, and the 400-yard freestyle relay team of McLeod, Mark, Haley Wilson (Carpenteria, Calif./Santa Barbara HS) and Dani Kimmel (Chula Vista, Calif./Eastlake HS) finished second with a time of 3:30.59 and recorded the fifth fastest time in school history.
Three other Waves notched personal bests on Saturday as Jaime Lyon’s (Spokane, Wash./Mt. Spokane HS) time of 2:10.94 in the 200-yard butterfly set a new personal best, Michelle Fadley (Malibu, Calif. /Northwood HS) swam a time of 2:11.80 in the same even to also set a new mark, and Marissa McDaniel (Oak Harbor, Wash../Oak Harbor HS) set a personal best in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 18:44.59.
The PCSC Championships conclude the Waves season. McLeod will compete at the NCAA Championships from Mar. 20-22 in Columbus, Ohio.
