LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Pepperdine women’s swimming and diving team enjoyed a strong Friday of competition and lead the team standings at the PCSC Championships going into the final day of competition in Long Beach, Calif.
The Waves finished the third day of competition with 857 points, while UC San Diego is in second place with 833 points.
The Waves posted two new school records, two new personal bests and had Ali McLeod (Austin, Texas/Cedar Park HS) qualify for the NCAA Championships in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 54.70, which was also good for first place and a new school record. Dani Kimmel (Chula Vista, Calif./Eastlake HS) notched the other Waves school record on Friday, as she swam a time of 1:05.24 in the 100-yard breaststroke, which placed her second.
The Waves 400-medley relay (McLeod, Kimmel, Franny Cyphers (Lake Oswego, Ore./St. Mary’s Academy) and Loriann Mark (Malibu, Calif./Malibu HS) posted the fourth fastest time in school history with a time of 3:54.92. Mark also reached the Pepperdine record books with the fifth best time in school history in the 100-yard backstroke (57.19), which notched a second place finish.
Personal bests reached on Friday included Mark’s time of 1:54.59 in the 200-yard freestyle, Jamie Lyon (Spokane, Wash./Mt. Spokane HS) finishing in 11th place in the 100-yard butterfly (59.61), and Michelle Fadley (Malibu, Calif./Northwood HS) swimming a time of 4:37.79 in the 400-yard I.M.
The PCSC Championships conclude on Saturday.
