SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – School records and second-place finishes by Amanda Ajdari, Chelsea Wishard and Courtney Young at the UCSB Gaucho Round-Up highlighted the first meet of the season for the Pepperdine women’s track team on Saturday.
Ajdari (Valencia, Calif./Hart HS) took second place in the 100 meters (12.97) and missed out on first by only .01 of a second. She also took third place in the 400 hurdles (1:07.48) and set a school record.
Wishard (Lawai, Hawaii/Kauai HS) was second in the 1,500 meters (4:52.68) and set a school record. Young (Encinitas, Calif./La Costa Canyon HS) was second in the 3,000 meters (10:27.75) and set a school record.
Bridgette Walker (Oak Harbor, Wash./Oak Harbor HS) took third place in the 200 meters (26.74) and fifth in place in the 100 meters (13.52). Kristen Rowsey (Los Altos, Calif./Los Altos HS) was fourth in the 400 meters (1:03.68). Brie Carroll (Pusan, South Korea/Pusan American HS) was fourth in the 1500 meters (4:59.23).
The 400 relay team of Walker, Rowsey, Grace Lanier (Houston, Texas/Cypress HS) and Ajdari placed third in 51.04 seconds and set a school record.
“We had a beautiful day and some really great performances,” Pepperdine Coach Robert Radnoti said. “We had several school records set once again. We just missed out on victories in several events where there were some close finishes. It was pretty exciting for the team and a great first meet for everybody.”
The Waves next hold their own West Coast Track Challenge on Saturday, March 1, at the Stotsenberg Track at 10 a.m.
