LONG BEACH, Calif. – Pepperdine’s 400 medley relay and freshman Madison Krall each made their mark on the school’s record book during the first day of competition at the Nike Cup.
The 400 medley relay of freshman Rachel Cote (Honolulu, Hawai’i/Punahou HS), junior Dani Kimmel (Chula Vista, Calif./Eastlake HS), sophomore Francesca Cyphers (Lake Oswego, Ore./St. Mary's Academy) and senior Haley Wilson (Carpinteria, Calif./Santa Barbara HS) finished the race with a seventh-place time of 3:54.69, which is the fifth fastest in Wave history.
This same relay cracked the record list once previously this season, posting a 3:53.84 two weeks ago at the UCI Shootout.
Kimmel, Cote and Wilson along with sophomore Kayleen Hicks (Chico, Calif./Chico HS) also posted a solid performance in the 200 freestyle relay with a season best time of 1:37.72. Their previous season best of 1:39.07 was recorded at PCSCs to open up the 2008-09 campaign.
Individually, Krall (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo Centennial HS) had one of her best days in the pool as she twice dropped her 500 freestyle time from a seed time of 5:10.27 to 5:07.06 in prelims, and then to 5:04.91 in finals. Her mark in finals was the 13th fastest of the night and is the fourth best in Pepperdine history.
Kimmel pulled off a similar accomplishment to Krall in the 50 free, lowering her time on three occasions. Kimmel clocked a 24.54 in prelims and a 24.43 as the lead off on the 200 free relay before finishing 19th overall with a 24.40. Her season best currently stands at 24.20.
