SKILLMAN, New Jersey—The 2008 Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings released Tuesday afternoon, named four Pepperdine men’s tennis players among the top 100 singles players in the nation. The men's team was ranked No. 17 in the team rankings.
Sophomore Bassam Beidas (Cairo, Egypt ) is ranked No. 13. Beidas qualified for the ITA Indoor Championships this fall after winning the consolation round of the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championship. Beidas advanced to the quarterfinals of the indoor championships after an upset victory against nationally ranked Erling Tveit, of University of Mississippi.
Tabbed at No. 22 among collegiate athletes, is senior Andre Begemann (Blomberg, Germany). Begemann claimed the ITA Division I Regional Singles Championship title in fall of 2007.
Junior Omar Altmann (Cairo / Egypt) earned the No. 66 rank. Altmann advanced to the finals of the 51st Southern California Intercollegiate Championships before being defeated by teammate, James Lemke. He claimed the doubles championship with Lemke at the same tournament.
Ranked at No. 73 nationally is Sophomore James Lemke (Melbourne, Australia). Lemke won the singles and doubles titles at the 51st Southern California Intercollegiate Championships.
Men's tennis opens their season at the The Sherwood Invitational, Jan. 18-21.
