MALIBU, Calif. – The Pepperdine swimming and diving team will compete in its first tournament of the spring at the UC Irvine Invitational from Jan. 5-6, at the Anteater Aquatic Complex in Irvine, Calif.
The Anteaters’ 29th annual invitational is conducted as four separate meets held over the two days. Teams will compete in the Sprint Invitational at 9 a.m. on Saturday, followed by the Distance Invitational in the afternoon. The Relay Invitational begins at 10 a.m. on Sunday, while the Diving Invitational will be take place both days throughout the day. The Waves are one of 14 teams competing in the event, as they will be joined by the host Anteaters, Washington State, UNLV, Boise State, San Jose State, San Diego, Cal State Northridge, Biola, Chapman, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, Incarnate Word, Whitman and Willamette.
The Waves competed in four tournaments in the fall, as they wrapped up the semester by placing ninth at the UC Irvine/Nike Cup on November 19. Their best showing came at the season-opening PCSC Invitationals from Oct. 12-13, as they finished the meet with 282 points, 77 points ahead of second place Loyola Marymount. The Waves claimed first place in 13 individual events, eight relay events and both diving events.
