SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The Pepperdine women’s swimming and diving team fell just short in their second dual meet of the season on Saturday, dropping a 157-143 decision to Cal Poly SLO in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
The Waves and Mustangs each won eight of 16 events, with the Waves taking first place in six swimming events and both diving events. Ali McLeod (Austin, Texas/Cedar Park HS) was the only Wave to take first place in two swimming events, as she won the 100-yard backstroke (59.48) and the 100-yard butterfly (57.31). Three other Waves claimed first place honors, as Dani Kimmmel (San Diego, Calif./Eastlake HS) won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:06.88), Kayleen Hicks (Chico, Calif./Chico HS) took first in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:26.39) and Loriann Mark (Malibu, Calif./Malibu HS) claimed first place in the 500-yard freestyle (5:09.50). The relay team of McLeod, Kimmel, Franny Cyphers (Lake Oswego, Ore./St. Mary’s Academy) and Haley Wilson (Carpenteria, Calif./Santa Barbara HS) took first place in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:50.27.
In the diving portion of the meet, Amanda Pond (Wayland, Mass/Wayland HS) won both events, taking first place in the 1-meter dive with a score of 217.95 and first place in the 3-meter dive with a score of 219.
The meet against the Mustangs was the Waves last dual meet of the season, as they will travel to Long Beach, Calif. to compete in the PCSC Championships from Feb. 13-16.
