Waves Defeat Matadors, 184-76

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – The Pepperdine swimming and diving team posted a 184-76 dual match win over Cal State Northridge on Saturday afternoon in Northridge, Calif. The Waves took first place in 12 of the 14 events en route to the 108 point victory.

 

Three Waves took first place honors in two events, as Loriann Mark (Malibu, Calif.) took first place in the 500-yard freestyle (5:13.85) and the 1,000-yard freestyle 10:46.39, Haley Wilson (Carpenteria, Calif./Santa Barbara HS) claimed the 200-yard freestyle (1:57.62) and the 100-yard freestyle (55.16) and Ali McLeod (Austin, Texas/Cedar Park HS) posted wins in the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.70) and the 100-yard butterfly (58.62).  Additionally, Dani Kimmel (San Diego, Calif./Eastlake HS) took first place in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:07.15), Franny Cyphers (Lake Oswego, Ore./St. Mary’s Academy) won the 200-yard butterfly (2:13.05) and Ali Chester (Riverside, Calif./Riverside Poly HS) claimed first place in the 200-yard backstroke (2:15.57).

 

The Waves also took first place in both relay events, as the team of McLeod, Kimmel, Cyphers and Wilso claimed the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:50.33 and the team of Mark, McLeod, Brianna Blanchard (Agoura, Calif./La Reina HS) and Jenna Sheeley (Honolulu, Hawaii//Punahou School) took first in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:43.76.

 

The Matadors were one of only two teams the Waves will face in a dual meet this season, as the Waves will also face Cal Poly San Luis Obispo on Jan. 26 in San Luis Obispo, Calif.

 

Up next, the Waves will travel to take on San Luis Obispo on Saturday, Jan. 26.
