Carroll and Wozniak Shine at Malibu Oceanside Open

Senior Laura Mickelson of LMU won the women’s race in an impressive early season time of 17:56.

“I’m extremely pleased with the way our women competed today. Our returning runners all ran strong and the freshman exceeded my expectations,” Pepperdine Head Coach Robert Radnoti said. “We should make a strong showing in our conference this season.”
With the men, freshman Conrad Wozniak (
LMU’s Trevor Wiseman was the overall men’s winner with a time of 16:05 followed closely by teammate Brian McDonald in 16:06
“Conrad impressed me with his desire to take the lead early in the race,” Radnoti said “We have a great group of recruits this season and we’re looking forward to watching this team develop.”
Competing with just seven runners, six of them freshmen, Pepperdine men’s team suffered its first defeat against a strong LMU team 43-18. freshman Seth Allison (Canyon Texas/ Canyon HS) finished second for the Waves in a time of 16:33, followed by freshman Eric Magana (Whittier, Calif./ La Serna HS) in 16:50, freshman Isaiah White (Thousand Oaks, Calif./ Thousand Oaks HS) 17:06, freshman David Williams (Manhattan Beach, Calif./ Mira Costa HS), freshman Tom Verdone (Anaheim, Calif./ Canyon HS) 17:45 and senior Josh Stutzman (Newberg, Org./ Newberg, HS) 20:17.
Gustaveo Arceo was the overall winner in the open division of the Oceanside Open with a time of 16:36. Veronica Mendoza led the women in a time of 20:58. Age division winners were: Craig Mead (50-54) in 19:46, Rachel Sears (30-34) in 21:17, Russell Stockard (60-64) in 22:00 and Keena Carstensen (45-49) in a time of 22:03.
