Jay Udwadia Hired as Men's Tennis Associate Head Coach

“I’m ecstatic about bringing Jay in to join us here at Pepperdine,” Steinberg said. “He’s a great coach and we’re lucky to add someone of his caliber. He’s been a friend of mine for a long time and I’m thrilled that he’ll be part of our program. The guys on the team are very excited. He’s a guy that lives and breathes college tennis. His enthusiasm is contagious and we need that.”

"I feel very fortunate to be coaching at such a prestigious university as Pepperdine,” Udwadia said. “Pepperdine has a great combination with a national championship program and rich academic traditions. It was a very attractive position for me to accept. I also couldn't imagine working with a better person than Adam, one of the most respected coaches in the business."
In his first and only season as the head coach at Drake, Udwadia led the 2004 Bulldogs to their first regular-season title in 11 years and a 22-4 record. He was named the Missouri Valley Conference Coach of the Year.
As a head coach, his four-year total is 60-32 (.652). He was also an assistant coach at Northwestern from 1999-03, with the Wildcats competing in two NCAA Tournaments.
Prior to entering collegiate coaching, Udwadia spent two years playing on the ATP Tour and held a world ranking in doubles. From 2000-04 he was also a coach and practice partner at the
