Women's Track off to Solid Start in Second Year

MALIBU, Calif. - The second-year women's track program opened the 2007 season with a preliminary competition over the weekend at the Cal State Northridge All-Comers Meet in Northridge, Calif.
Four athletes ran in the 800-meter run with Lauren Carfioli posting a team-best 2:29.0 finish in the two-lap event. Lauren Martinez was second on the team with a 2:31.2 clocking and Katie Hyten and Abby Uhrinak turned in times of 2:34.4 and 2:34.7, respectively.
Brie Carroll turned in the best time of the day in the mile run at 5:27.7, while Courtney Young and Caitlin White finished in 5:31.6 and 5:33.6, respectively.
Carroll also led a trio of Waves in the two-mile run with a 12:03.0 finish.
The 4x100 team of Maria Llacuna, Tiara Dole, Allie Becker and Kate Stjernholm ran to a :52.75 finish. In other sprints, Dole had a team-best finish of :08.25 in the 60-meter, and Llacuna's :09.64 clocking in the 60M hurdles was the fastest time of the day for Pepperdine.
Pepperdine will return to the track on Sat., Feb. 24 when it hosts the WCC Track Challenge on the University's campus.
