Waves Edged by Coppin State, 60-55

BALTIMORE, Maryland – The Pepperdine women’s basketball team suffered a loss to Coppin State Friday night, 60-55 at the Coppin Center in Baltimore, Maryland.

The Eagles (5-8) held the lead throughout the game with the Waves (5-5) down as much as 18 points and as little as 1 point. Jessica Ross (Gilroy, Calif. / Notre Dame HS) was the leading scorer for Pepperdine with a season-high 12 points. The Waves shot 27% from the field to the Eagles 42%.Teena Wickett (Vallejo, Calif. / Castlemont HS) was responsible for 10 rebounds.

 “The game was very physical,” said head coach Julie Rousseau. “We missed some key free-throws and our turnovers hurt us, but we had the experience of being on the road and I’m extremely proud of this team and their effort to fight back tonight.”

 

Pepperdine has been plagued by turnovers in its last three games. However, they cut their turnover rate down to 20, while Coppin state had 21. The Waves continued to show their strength on the free-throw line with 65% for the game to the Eagles 48%.

 

Pepperdine continues on its 10 day road trip with a game against George Washington, Sunday (Dec.30) at the Charles E. Smith Athletic Center in Washington D.C., at 1 p.m. ET.
